HTML5 is used to develop feature rich media applications like enhanced mobile website access and cloud based applications that increase awareness online.
Here we provide few tips on elements that can be used now to structure web pages better.
Figure Element
<img src=”path/to/image” alt=”About image” /><p>Image of Mars</p> |
- Instead of using the above image element we can start using the below figure tag element to describe the source, alternate text as well as something brief about the caption or paragraph wrap up within the image using figcaption tag.
<figure><img src=”path/to/image” alt=”About image” />
<figcaption> <p>This is an image of something interesting. </p> </figcaption> </figure> |
Header and Footer Element
<div id=”header”>…
</div> <div id=”footer”> … </div> |
- You can specify header and footer as elements in HTML5 to have multiple headers and footers. Projects which are not similar to the old Div elements with header and footer id shown above, have no semantic structure as like below.
<header>…
</header> <footer> … </footer> |
HGroup Element
<header>< hgroup>
< h1> Recall Fan Page < /h1> < h2> Only for people who want the memory of a lifetime. < /h2> < /hgroup> < /header> |
- Using HGroup elements we can group the consecutive page heading and subheading and simply demonstrate them as H1 and H2.
Mark Elements
<h3> Search Results </h3><p> They were interrupted, just after Quato said, <mark> “Open your Mind”</mark> . </p> |
- The Mark tag element is used as a highlighter to define the relevancy of a string (a word or a phrase) on a web page.
Article Elements
<article><header>
<h1> Title</h1> </header> <section> Content… </section> </article> |
- The Article tag above is used to indicate independent content separately with all its header and content as unique
Section Elements
<section><article>
<header> <h1>Title</h1> </header> <section> Content… </section> </article> <article> <header> <h1>Title</h1> </header> <section> Content… </section> </article> </section> |
- The Section tag above can be used to separate paragraphs or organize independent contents with its article tags.
Navigation Elements
<nav><ul>
Navigation… </ul> </nav> |
- The Nav tag above can be used determine the section of navigation links that are mostly important but not all the links of a document.
<menu type=”toolbar”><li>
<menu label=”File”> <button type=”button” onclick=”file_new()”>New…</button> <button type=”button” onclick=”file_open()”>Open…</button> <button type=”button” onclick=”file_save()”>Save</button> </menu> </li> <li> <menu label=”Edit”> <button type=”button” onclick=”edit_cut()”>Cut</button> <button type=”button” onclick=”edit_copy()”>Copy</button> <button type=”button” onclick=”edit_paste()”>Paste</button> </menu> </li> </menu> |
- The above menu tags can be used to denote the menu list options on HTML5. Since we have access to article, header, footer, section separately, the div elements must be used in case of no suitable or better element available.
Date and Time Elements
<time datetime=”2010-11-08″>2010</time>, these tag elements can be used to set date and time as specifically in the content, while <time datetime=”2011-09-28″ pubdate=”pubdate”></time> be used for denoting published date and time of the document.
Audio Elements
<audio id=”audio” src=”sound.mp3″ controls></audio>document.getElementById(“audio”).muted = false; |
Video Elements
<video id=”video” src=”movie.webm” autoplay controls></video>document.getElementById(“video”).play(); |
- These are the audio and video tag elements that can be used in HTML5. The audio and video tags denotes the audio clip, or video streams.
- These tags allow users to know about the audio or video content by displaying the alternate text used to define what the content is all about in browser that do not support such file type.
And so, the HTML5 emerges as deep content inspection technology for the future web.

Importance of Creativity and Artwork for a better Search Engine Optimisation
We all know that Website Design is one of a creative task. While coming to SEO web design, it requires creative thinking with strategic plan which helps every website to reach its ultimate goal precisely.
We like to bring up some important tips on designing a website with strategic plan and creative thinking that can make your website work with 0% bounce rate and serve as conversion engine in reaching website goals with excellent Return-On-Investment (ROI).
Strategic Plan:
- The most important factor that we have highlighted in the article is on call-to-action elements as that is what drives interest in the user to browse through your website and find the required information.
- Before starting to design a website, plan the use of consistent font, color, size, which helps in building your brand.
- Another important factor is the use of button type and its placement, button text, which plays an important role in call-to-action function.
- Use solid colors in contrast with the page that works best for such call-to-action elements. Use of small images and tiny text should be avoided.
- Use of blended call-to action (i.e. call-to-action function mix up with other elements like images, videos, graphics which may left unidentified by the user) or not using it in appropriate location may result in failure of webpage.
- The use of too many links or too much content may irritate users; use appropriate anchor texts for links within content may help the visitor understand what the link is all about, but the content with clear message is very important.
Creative Thinking:
- Creativity is endless based upon every human being but it must have some limitations while designing a website.
- Design a website without excessive images, graphic clutters, annoying pop-up’s or a bright background which may distract the users attention.
- Don’t use every inch of space available as well as don’t leave excessive white space which may lead to cluttered pages or busy layout.
- Don’t use blended call-to-action function; the use of call-to-action must be strategically planned because they lead the user to take deliberate action.
- Use proper navigation, which helps user to access the information easily and quickly. Make sure you select the correct screen resolution.
A web designer aware of these important processes may deliver a successful and high quality website which can serve better for high return on investment.

How to convert HTML to WordPress Theme? – Part 2
Here is the continuation of the past article which may clearly explain to you about the basic template elements and its coding structure in depth with complete module package. Every structure of webpage will consist of the following basic elements such as header, content and footer which are generated by template file in your current WordPress Theme as given below.
- index.php
- header.php
- footer.php
- sidebar.php
- functions.php
index.php
The index.php template is the default template for displaying the contents (blog posts, pages, etc.) on a site. There are other files that can overwrite it, but you’ll learn about those in a later tutorial. For now, you’ll learn about its most important function: holding everything together.
When any page on a WordPress site is loaded, it looks for a template. In our case, this is the index.php template. It will be the template that’s expected to display the page.
The index file code goes here:
<?php get_header(); ?>
<div id=”content”> <?php if ( have_posts() ) : while ( have_posts() ) : the_post(); ?> <h2><a href=”<?php the_permalink() ?>”><?php the_title(); ?></a></h2> <?php the_content(); ?> <p><?php the_time(‘F j, Y’); ?> at <?php the_time(‘g:i a’); ?> | <?php the_category(‘, ‘); ?> | <?php comments_number(‘No comment’, ‘1 comment’, ‘% comments’); ?></p> <?php endwhile; else: ?> <h2>Woops…</h2> <p>Sorry, no posts we’re found.</p> <?php endif; ?> <p align=”center”><?php posts_nav_link(); ?></p> </div> <?php get_sidebar(); ?> <?php get_footer(); ?> |
This code does several things as explained in Part 1 of this Tutorial series:
- Uses the WordPress function get_header() to load the header.php template.
- Defines some basic HTML for the structure of our future content.
- Uses the WordPress function get_sidebar() to load the sidebar.php template.
- Uses the WordPress function get_footer() to load the footer.php template.
header.php
In the previous section, you used a PHP function called get_header() to load a template called header.php. Since this file doesn’t exist yet, you’ll need to create it. So, create a new file using your text editor called header.php and save it within your theme folder.
The file directory structure will be:
- Your theme name
- header.php
- index.php
- style.css
The source code formats for header.php something like the following:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC “-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN” “http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd”>
<html xmlns=”http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml” <?php language_attributes() ?>> <head profile=”http://gmpg.org/xfn/11″> <title><?php bloginfo(‘name’); ?> <?php wp_title(); ?></title> <meta http-equiv=”Content-Type” content=”<?php bloginfo(‘html_type’); ?>; charset=<?php bloginfo(‘charset’); ?>” /> <link rel=”stylesheet” href=”<?php bloginfo(‘stylesheet_url’); ?>” type=”text/css” media=”screen,projection” /> <?php wp_head(); ?> </head> <body> <div id=”wrapper”> <div id=”header”> <p class=”description”><?php bloginfo(‘description’); ?></p> <h1><a href=”<?php echo get_option(‘home’); ?>/”><?php bloginfo(‘name’); ?></a></h1> <?php wp_list_pages(‘sort_column=menu_order&title_li=’); ?> </ul></div> |
footer.php
The footer template should close out all open HTML tags that were opened in the header template and index template.
The footer template code will be looks like this;
<div id=”footer”>
<!– Please leave this line intact –> <p>Template design by <a href=”https://www.treeshore.com”>TreeShore</a> <!– you can delete below here –> © <?php the_time(‘Y’); ?> <?php bloginfo(‘name’); ?>.<br /> <?php /*?><a href=”<?php bloginfo(‘rss2_url’); ?>”>Grab the feed</a>.<?php */?></p> </div></div><?php wp_footer(); ?> </body> </html> |
sidebar.php
The sidebar.php template code goes something like this;
<?php
/***************** * The Sidebar containing the primary and secondary widget areas. * @package WordPress * @subpackage Theme Name * @since Theme Version *************** */ ?> <div id=”primary-sidebar”> <ul class=”news”> <?php if ( ! dynamic_sidebar( ‘primary-sidebar’ ) ) : ?> <li><?php get_search_form(); ?> </br></li><li><h3><?php _e( ‘Archives’, ‘TreeShore’ ); ?></h3> <ul><?php wp_get_archives( ‘type=monthly’ ); ?> </ul> </br> </li><li> <h3><?php _e( ‘Meta’, ‘TreeShore’ ); ?></h3> <ul> <?php wp_register(); ?> <?php wp_loginout(); ?> <?php wp_meta(); ?> </ul></li> <?php endif; ?> </ul> </div> <?php if ( is_active_sidebar( ‘secondary-sidebar’ ) ) : ?> <div id=”secondary-sidebar”> <ul class=”news1″> <?php dynamic_sidebar( ‘secondary-sidebar’ ); ?> </ul></div> <?php endif; ?> |
And finally what does the functions.php file do with WordPress?
This actually invokes calling of WordPress Widgets to your website. And also enables you to add more sidebar widgets to your site.
The code format for this function.php;
<?php
function TreeShore_widgets_init() { // Area 1, located at the top of the sidebar. register_sidebar( array( ‘name’ => __( ‘Primary Sidebar’, ‘TreeShore’ ), ‘id’ => ‘primary-sidebar’, ‘description’ => __( ‘Primary Sidebar’, ‘TreeShore’ ), ‘before_widget’ => ‘<li id=”%1$s” class=”widget-container %2$s”>’, ‘after_widget’ => ‘</li>’, ‘before_title’ => ‘<h3 class=”widget-title”>’, ‘after_title’ => ‘</h3>’, ) ); // Area 2, located below the Primary Widget Area in the sidebar. Empty by default. register_sidebar( array( ‘name’ => __( ‘Secondary Sidebar’, ‘TreeShore’ ), ‘id’ => ‘secondary-sidebar’, ‘description’ => __( ‘Secondary Sidebar’, ‘TreeShore’ ), ‘before_widget’ => ‘<li id=”%1$s” class=”widget-container %2$s”>’, ‘after_widget’ => ‘</li>’, ‘before_title’ => ‘<h3 class=”widget-title”>’, ‘after_title’ => ‘</h3>’, ) ); } /** Register sidebars by running TreeShore_widgets_init() on the widgets_init hook. */ add_action( ‘widgets_init’, ‘TreeShore_widgets_init’ ); ?> |
Now you may understand the process of converting your HTML code to WordPress theme.
How to convert HTML to WordPress Theme? – Part 1
WordPress is a Content Management System (CMS), which allows us to generate cool websites or blogs with thousands of themes and plug-ins available as well as permit to create our own theme by converting HTML. Here we contribute the article on How to Convert HTML to WordPress Theme, that helps you to modernize your website or blog approximately as you would have imagined.
How Does WordPress Theme Functions?
Word Press functions rely on PHP to call on different parts of your content such as header, sidebar, and footer from the database management system it stands on a simple method.
For example, look into your /wp-content/themes/your theme name/ directory and open the header.php file.
Format of style sheet linking URL:
<link rel=”stylesheet” type=”text/css” media=”all” href=”<?php bloginfo( ‘stylesheet_url’ ); ?>” /> |
This is how WordPress uses PHP to display content in our XHTML.
The above PHP code is used to look-up your style sheet’s location from the style sheet directory or theme directory. Let’s get started to develop your own WordPress Theme. Throughout this process we need to use PHP codes for different parts of our content.
Important Things to know in WordPress Theme Development
Create a new folder and name it with your theme name that you prefer. Next, we need to create two files called, index.php and style.css within our theme directory. Copy your entire html template’s CSS code to style.css.
Add the following code at the top of the style.css file:
- /*****************************/
- Theme Name: Your theme name.
- Theme URI: URL of your theme located
- Description: description about your theme.
- Version: 1.0
- uthor: Author name
- Author URI: Author URL.
- /****************************/
Now create another 3 new files namely;
- header.php
- sidebar.php
- footer.php and place them in your theme directory.
- Next take a look at the header.php file from any of the WordPress theme, and copy that code to your new header.php file.
- Now open up your original HTML file and copy the code up to </head> part from the beginning of your html file.
- Now open up your new index.php file and copy the remaining part of your original HTML code other than </head> part as the content section into your index.php file.
- Next open up your new sidebar.php file; copy the sidebar section of your original code into the sidebar.php file.
- And finally, copy the original footer section of your original code into your footer.php file.
Final Package
That’s it, you have done. Before going to package your theme add this line at the very top of the index.php file:
<?php get_header(); ?> |
Now go to the end of your index.php file and add the following two lines:
<?php get_sidebar(); ?> <?php get_footer(); ?> |
These three lines of PHP codes are often used to fetch and display your header.php, sidebar.php, and footer.php files within your index.php file. Your index.php is almost finished now.
Loop Function
The final process is to add the actual content into the code. The Loop is the PHP function that WordPress uses to call and display your posts from the database they are stored in. Copy the following code and paste it into your new theme’s index.php file (inside the div where the actual content goes).
<?php if ( have_posts() ) : ?> <?php while ( have_posts() ) : the_post(); ?> <div id=”post-<?php the_ID(); ?>” <?php post_class(); ?>> <div class=”post-header”> <div class=”date”><?php the_time( ‘M j y’ ); ?></div> <h2><a href=”<?php the_permalink(); ?>” rel=”bookmark” title=”Permanent Link to <?php the_title_attribute(); ?>”><?php the_title(); ?></a></h2> <div class=”author”><?php the_author(); ?></div> </div><!–end post header–> <div class=”entry clear”> <?php if ( function_exists( ‘add_theme_support’ ) ) the_post_thumbnail(); ?> <?php the_content(); ?> <?php edit_post_link(); ?> <?php wp_link_pages(); ?> </div><!–end entry–> <div class=”post-footer”> <div class=”comments”><?php comments_popup_link( ‘Leave a Comment’, ‘1 Comment’, ‘% Comments’ ); ?></div> </div><!–end post footer–> </div><!–end post–> <?php endwhile; /* rewind or continue if all posts have been fetched */ ?> <div class=”navigation index”> <div class=”alignleft”><?php next_posts_link( ‘Older Entries’ ); ?></div> <div class=”alignright”><?php previous_posts_link( ‘Newer Entries’ ); ?></div> </div><!–end navigation–> <?php else : ?> <?php endif; ?> |
Final Stage
Now upload your theme folder to /wp-content/themes/. Then log into WordPress and activate your theme. For even better understanding of the basic template structure and its coding structure please read the Part-2 article which will be posted soon.
