How to add Google Analytics Code in Joomla Websites

Google analytics code is a wonderful tool which could be used along with Joomla websites to keep a watch on the traffic, one’s website goes on to receive. Moreover, it is free to setup and use and hence, all one has to do is to follow the installation steps. As Google analytics is according to the standards of industry, there are a number of tutorials which are available online to help people use the Google analytics code tool to monitor frequent visits to the Joomla website.

The first step would be, to go to the Google analytics website and sign up for an account. Once the person who is going to register follows the registration process, he/she would encounter a page where they would be given a tracking code which shall be added to each page of your website. If you are faced with the option of choosing between old tracking code and a new tracking code, it would be ideal for people to choose the new tracking code.

The next step would be to allow the webpage to be kept open with the tracking code on, as we are going to need it again. It is also a very easy process to add the analytics tracking code to the Joomla website. This can be carried by logging in to the backend of Joomla administrator and by editing the templates of HTML. If one is using Joomla 1.0.10, 1.0.11,1.0.12,1.0.13,1.0.14 or 1.0.15, all that he/she has to do is to log on to http://www.yoursite.com/administrator/. After that, one has to select “Site”>”Template Manager”>”Site Templates”, from the top menu. Finally, the concerned party has to choose the template which has been marked as default and then click “Edit”. If the user is carrying out the processes in Joomla 1.5 or 1.51, then he/she has to log on to http://www.yoursite.com/administrator/ and then select “Extensions”>”Template Manager”. After this, the user has to choose the template which is marked as default and then click “Edit”. Then, in the template edit page, the user has to click “Edit HTML”.

Having followed the above steps, one would be looking at the template’s HTML code. The Google Analytics code has to be pasted before the Closing HTML tag. Finally, to conclude one needs to press “save” to install Google analytics.

Obviously there are other easy ways too, but this should definitely help a starter. At TreeShore, we have been extensively using Joomla 1.5 for developing websites. We would be able to answer your queries here if any.
